ESD2BS provides youth with mentors who can develop an emotional bond with them. Mentors are willing to provide support, guidance, and opportunities to help the youth succeed in life and meet their goals. Our program is built on four core values: Violence Prevention, and Self Awareness, Job readiness and Accountability.ESD2BS incorporates its four core values into its mentoring approach:
- Violence Prevention: Mentors work with youth to understand the impact of violence and promote peaceful conflict resolution. They provide tools and strategies to handle conflicts calmly, emphasizing communication, empathy, and understanding. Activities and discussions around anger management, bullying, peer pressure, and building healthy relationships are integrated to foster a safe and positive environment.
- Self-Awareness: Mentors help youth develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their strengths, and areas for growth. Through guided activities, reflection exercises, and open conversations, the program encourages youth to explore their identities, values, and aspirations. This helps build self-confidence and resilience, allowing them to make informed decisions and navigate life’s challenges more effectively.
- Job Readiness: ESD2BS focuses on preparing youth for future employment opportunities by equipping them with practical skills. This includes resume writing workshops, interview preparation, job shadowing, and exposure to different career paths. Mentors also help youth understand the importance of professionalism, work ethic, and networking, laying a solid foundation for their career success.
- Accountability: Mentors foster a sense of responsibility in the youth by setting clear expectations and helping them set and achieve personal goals. The program encourages self-discipline, integrity, and ownership of one’s actions. By teaching accountability, youth learn the importance of following through on commitments, understanding consequences, and learning from mistakes.
From these four values we built a 6-month program to adequately equip our mentees for a better life.
